Which products give you shiny, glossy hair - and are there other ways to get soft, silky locks? Here are allbeauty’s top 5 tips for sleek, glamorous tresses, with fabulous product suggestions.
Healthy, glossy hair starts from within, but plenty of external factors can mess up your plans. Heating tools, weather, chlorine, central heating and the sun can all contribute to dull, lifeless hair.Glossy Hair Tip #1: Apply your oil or treatment mask warm
Apply a treatment oil or mask to the hair once a week then pop on a shower cap. Over the top of that add a hat, a turban or towel that’s been gently warmed. Leave on for at least an hour while you relax (or hoover the house as we like to do!) Then rinse hair and shampoo/condition as normal. The heat from your head allows the treatment to be better absorbed so you’ll see more of a benefit than with cold application. L'Oreal Professionnel has a huge range of masks for all hair types, but for shiny hair we love Nutrifier Glycerol (left) or Absolut Repair Lipidium Masque. allbeauty Customer Yvette said "Been using this for years. If youcan't put a brush through your damaged hair this is a must. It does work."*Bonus Tip - to add some quick heat, gently direct a dryer under the towel or hair covering on medium heat, but please not so hot that you melt the shower cap…Glossy Hair Tip #2: Rinse with cold water
Owww! We know, we hear you, but this step honestly does add shine to the hair. The cold water flattens the cuticle and leaves you with beautiful soft tresses. If you have longer hair then just rinse the parts not touching your head for a pain-free rinse. If you have a pixie cut we’re sorry, you’ll just have to be brave! For the totally-unconvinced, a leave-in product like label.m Radiance Oil may be a better alternative. allbeauty Customer Hinna said "An excellent product. It really gives a softness and shine to my dull damaged hair."
Glossy Hair Tip #3: Hair oils part 2
An easy way to get glossy hair is by applying oil to the ends around 15 minutes before you shampoo. Washing your hair will remove the oil but you’ll still have a slight residue that adds shine. Alternatively, add a few drops of oil to your regular conditioner.
L'Oréal Professionnel Mythic Oil (right) is a very popular product - allbeauty Customer Christine said "I have been using Mythic Oil for a couple of years now. It's a great product and my leaves my hair soft. I use slightly more on the ends if they feel dry or in the summer. Brilliant product - can't recommend enough!"One other product we adore is Redken Diamond Oil Shatterproof Shine, a super-versatile product that ticks all these boxes.
Glossy Hair Tip #4: Use a boar bristle hairbrush
Natural bristles move oils down the hairshaft and result in a glossier sheen with regular use. A great option if you don’t want to change products at this time. You can browse allbeauty's range of boar bristle brushes here. We really like the range from MOROCCANOIL, who are masters of glossy hair!
Glossy Hair Tip #5: Apply a temporary hair colour
This tip came from a hairdresser friend - not only will you gain volume and condition but the added pigment will create light and shade giving the effect of healthier, glossy hair. To maintain hair colour between treatments, or add a colour shimmer, we really like Revlon Professional Nutri Color Creme masks.
Bonus Tip: Fake it!
