From glazed doughnut nails to chocolate brownie lips, food-themed makeup trends are everywhere right now. But one look that is more addictive than your morning espresso is the viral latte makeup trend.

The trend originated on TikTok, with more than 36 million users trying the look and tagging #lattemakeup on the app. The bronzed makeup look has also become a go-to for influencers and celebrities on social media and at red carpet events .

Here’s everything you need to know about the viral latte makeup trend.

What is latte makeup?

Latte makeup involves lots of shades of brown and gold on a creamy, hydrated base, creating a glowy, sunkissed look. Think brown eye makeup, lots of bronzer and a perfectly neutral nude lip.

This makeup look is simple to recreate and suitable for all skin tones. It’s the grown-up elevation of the ‘clean girl aesthetic’ that will accentuate your natural complexion and give you a modern goddess glow.

Why is it called latte makeup?

Exactly why you might think! The brown and nude makeup products used against a creamy, well-moisturised face are somewhat reminiscent of a cup of hot, milky coffee. And, much like caffeine, the gorgeous glow from this look will put a pep in your step.

Where does the latte makeup trend come from?

Content creator Rachel Rigler coined the term ‘latte makeup’ on TikTok. She was recreating a look created by makeup artist Tanielle Jai in 2018, and described the look as “warm and bronzey, milky and effortless,” in the video.

The TikTok went viral and other users began to recreate the look. The shades of nude and brown make it the ideal makeup look for the coming autumnal season.

Latte products: How do I join in this trend?

To achieve the latte makeup look you need to start with a soft and creamy base and avoid heavy foundation. By Terry’s Brightening CC Serum is both a makeup and skincare product. Using a special brightening agent, the lightweight CC serum will even out your skin tone whilst giving you a dewy, luminous glow. It is a great nude base for latte makeup.

Next, it’s time for a creamy contour. Benefit’s Boi-ing Cakeless Concealer is a multifunctional product that comes in 29 shades so you can use it as either a concealer or contour stick — we recommend getting two shades and using it for both! Apply to the skin lightly to avoid the makeup caking, and blend well!

The most important thing to remember to get the perfect latte makeup look is to opt for browns and bronzes with gold and caramel undertones and avoid anything with an orangey tint. This Estée Lauder Bronze Goddess Powder Bronzer is an excellent makeup product for this latte look. Dusted on your cheekbones, the warm, natural tone of the bronze makeup will give you an effortless radiance.

The brown eye makeup is the most important part of this look. This Estée Lauder Double Wear Waterproof Gel Eye Pencil comes in a soft chestnut shade and seamlessly adds definition to the lash line. The smudger tip can be used to create a subtle brown smokey eye with just this one makeup product. If you’re looking for something with a little sparkle, this Stila Eyeshadow Palette includes a matte, nude and oaty iridescent colour, sweep across the eyelids for brown, latte makeup that will make your eyes pop.

No latte makeup look is complete without the perfect nude lip. The Clinique Pop Lip Colour + Primer in Beige Pop has a coffee-like creamy velvet finish and hydrates the lips for up to eight hours.

Last, but not least, complete your latte makeup look with a spray of Ghost Orb of Night Opulence Eau de Parfum. The sensual and voluptuous scent has a base of cocoa butter and cappuccino making it a fitting fragrance to emphasise your bronzed latte makeup, and leave you smelling, and looking, good enough to drink!
