Mascara Tips

Before you start - never pump your wand! That's the quickest way to get air in there, and make your mascara dry out. Trust the product - just unscrew, twist around a few times, then remove the wand. And if your favourite mascara has dried out, a few drops of sterile saline will keep it going until your new tube arrives. Simply drop them into the tube and twist it shut.

Step One - Curl!!

Start as you mean to go on - curling your lashes means they're lifted, separated and in the right place before you lock it all in with mascara. Get the curler as close to the eyelid as you can without pinching the skin and squeeze gently to curl.

Step Two - Tightline

To get lashes looking super thick, tightline the inside of the upper lid to give the appearance of thick roots. You can use eyeshadow and a brush, or a regular eyeliner. Lining the inside of the lashes is a great option for volume, especially if you aren't using liner as part of your overall look or if you're going for a natural effect.

Step Three - Wiggle!

Wiggling the brush from root to tip ensures great coverage, separated lashes and a fuller, volumised look. It's important at this stage to get the lashes separated, as it'll be tough to separate them once your mascara is on! Here's how with benefit, using their amazing They're Real! Mascara:

Step Four - Layer

Now for the magic part - once your first coat is dry, apply a second layer. It really doesn't matter which mascara you're using, but make sure it's fairly new / fluid so it's easy to apply. Apply mainly at the tips, again with a wiggle motion to keep the lashes separate. Dry and, if wanted, apply a third coat. If the lashes begin to look clumpy, it's usually time to stop, but you can rescue things by gently using the tips of tweezers to move the lashes apart while they're still wet - be very careful around your eyes!

False Lashes

Want to go super-fluttery? False lashes are an easy option, but it pays to experiment if you're new to them. You definitely don't want to be applying lashes for the first ever time, just before your red hot date! Follow the same preparation as above, including steps one and two, then apply your lashes. False Lash Dos And Don'ts

• The longer lashes go on the outer corner of the eye, shorter lashes on the inner corner - trim them if necessary with a sharp pair of nail scissors
• Test lashes first, before applying glue, to see how they'll fit - they may not go corner to corner but that's fine
• Curl your own lashes before you apply false ones, they'll sit better
• Hold the lashes in a pair of tweezers for precision control while you glue them on
• Look down when you apply and attach the false lashes to the skin, not your own eyelashes
• Glue normally dries clear, so don't worry if you have a white band while applying. Any excess glue can be covered with liquid liner
