Can you really get 12hr+ makeup? Oh yes you can, and we're here to help with some easy tips!

It's that time of year when we're heading from office to party, staying out late,  painting the town red and burning the festive candle all-over! But how do you get your makeup to play ball and stay the night? One thing's for sure, Cinderella never had this problem...

Always the first to go (in our experience), what's worse than partying the night away only to find your eye makeup went to bed hours earlier? Two things you need to know here: primer + waterproof products. We know, waterproof makeup isn't fun to remove, but a) you only live once and b) perspiration is your 12hr+ enemy! Don't be afraid to top up mascara before you go out, but only apply to the tips. And consider false lashes for a look that really lasts.

  • Top Tip #1 Mix a little primer with eyeshadow and apply as 'gel liner' that has unbelievable staying power
  • Top Tip #2 Apply primer all around your eye with a makeup brush. For more tips on keeping eye makeup in place, see our post on avoiding the dreaded panda eye.

If you find your face tends to slide (even when wearing primer) then take a look at your foundation and switch to a long wear base that resists rub-off (we love Estée Lauder Double Wear). If oil is an issue (most likely),  then incorporate a mattifying moisturiser that controls oil production.

Mirror Mirror On The Wall, Why Are Lips Trickiest Of All? Drinking, eating, kissing (ahem), they all remove lip colour like no-one's business. There's not a huge amount to be done to be honest, other than re-application, but you can take steps to minimise colour loss. And some people find a dusting of powder over the lips helps to set colour - we think it's a little drying, but have an experiment and see what you think.

  • Top Tip #1 Apply an all-over colour under your lipstick or gloss, using  a lip pencil. This ensures a base colour that won't move.
  • Top Tip #2 Apply an all-over lip stain - our favourite tip, a lip stain is so versatile! Apply a gloss over the top or your usual lipstick. Either way, you've got colour that lasts.
